A page where I can dump paper whales-adjacent doodles, in no particular order.

 


 As described in a 2020 paper, the first known published description of a False Killer Whale was actually made in 1743. The whale, which beached itself on the coast of Sicily, was actually still alive when found, but was subsequently "killed by blows from a broom" (p. 351). I double checked to see if the paper's translation was inaccurate, but no, some hench Sicilian in 1729 managed to kill a whale with a broom.
